Alternative Resources: Paying Off Comments Off
Elmwood Park’s policy of aggressively partnering with outside government agencies, pursuing grants and seeking special, low-interest loans is paying dividends for taxpayers, say village officials, tallying up the savings in their newsletter that is to go out to homes next month.
Officials estimate the village has saved taxpayers $18.2 million over the past four years by pursuing resources other than property taxes to back initiatives.
“Since day one, I have vowed that Elmwood Park would be part of the conversation when federal, state and county governments look for projects to fund,” said Elmwood Park Village President Angelo “Skip” Saviano. “Our entire village board has worked tirelessly to move our community forward while also keeping taxes low for our residents.”
Many of the grants provided both up-front cost savings as well as long-term savings, officials noted.
