Mayor also announces that Taste of Elmwood Park will return in August
ELMWOOD PARK – Village officials announced today that the annual Independence Day Parade will take place along with all of the other activities and events associated with the holiday.
“Things are beginning to return to normal and we are ready a great summer of families, friends and fun,” said Elmwood Park Mayor Angelo “Skip” Saviano. “This years’ parade will be structured similar to our 2020 celebration as parade vehicles work their way through practically every street in town so residents can watch it from the comfort of their front porches or in their front yards.”
Mayor Saviano also announced that the annual Taste of Elmwood Park would return for its four day run beginning August 5th.
“We are delighted to bring back the “Taste” and all of the culinary delights that go along with it,” Saviano said. “As a restaurant mecca, Elmwood Park has more than a few restaurants that can please the palate.”
The parade will kick off at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 4th from 80th Avenue and Westwood Drive and proceed street by street through the town covering nearly 30 miles of residential thoroughfares in the village. The route was devised last year during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to allow for social distancing and safety, but it proved so popular that village officials are repeating the route even as COVID moves farther into the rear-view mirror. There will still be no throwing of candy from vehicles in order to promote health safety.
Back this year after a hiatus in 2020 will be the day long celebration at Elmwood Park High School from 6 pm to 10 pm. The annual fireworks extravaganza happens at 9:30 pm.
“We are excited that a full docket of 4th of July activities and festivities are back, and we hope that all the residents of Elmwood Park can participate in them in a collective spirit of pride and patriotism,” said Mayor Saviano. “Elmwood Park came together during the pandemic, and we want to demonstrate how we are remaining together in 2021.’”
