When there is a snow accumulation of 2 inches or more of snow on the streets in the Village, no parking will be allowed on odd numbered addresses (East and South Sides) on odd numbered dates, and even numbered addresses (West and North Sides) on even numbered dates between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please be advised that the Village of Elmwood Park Administration will make a deceleration of a “Snow Day”. If this occurs, then please follow the previous instructions. These restrictions shall not apply to vehicles parked on Harlem, Belmont, Grand or North Avenues. Failure to remove your vehicle will result in a violation of $50.00 per occurrence and will be towed at the owner’s expense.
The Village will notify residents when this snow related parking restriction is in effect via Blackboard, Facebook, and the Village’s Website www.elmwoodpark.org. (To sign up for Facebook and blackboard alerts, please visit the Village’s website.)
For example, if there is a 2 inch snowfall on December 2, the parking restrictions will go into effect the following day. On December 3, all vehicles must be moved from the odd address side of the street (ex: 2333 73rd CT) between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Then on the following day, December 4, all vehicles must be moved from the even address side of the street (ex: 2334 73rd CT) between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
This is being done so the Village can clear the streets from curb-to-curb within 2 work days following a snowfall.
**Please remember when there is a snowfall; these restrictions will take precedence over the street cleaning maintenance schedule.**
Driveway Snow Questions
Our Public Works Department, like most in our area uses angle snow plows for snow removal. The major advantage of a side-angle plow is that it enables efficient and rapid snow removal. With a side-angle plow however, it is not possible to prevent a windrow of snow from forming in front of a driveway. Drivers are not permitted to raise their plows at driveways during snow removal operations as doing so would not only significantly extend the time required for snow removal, such an action would leave piles of windrow snow on streets creating a potentially dangerous driving condition.Residents can minimize the impact on their properties by shoveling snow in the direction of traffic and making a driveway pocket to take on accumulated snow (see image below). Though we acknowledge the inconvenience of curbside discharge of snow, it is a necessary trade-off for the efficient and rapid removal of snow throughout our community.
Please call the Public Works Department at 708-452-3945 for more details.
Warming and cooling centers have been established with the assistance of the Fire and Police Departments. Warming and cooling centers have been developed to provide a safe and comfortable environment for the elderly, very young and those residents who are medically compromised during inclement weather.
Warming /Cooling Centers
The Village has designated two areas as warming/cooling centers. The Primary warming/cooling Center is the Public Safety Building located at 7420 Fullerton Avenue (708) 453-2137. The Secondary warming/cooling center will be the Elmwood Park Parks and Recreation building located at 2 Conti Parkway (708) 452-3935.
